Australian VW Type 2 Bay Window campervan, 1976 RHD, 1800 engine

VW Type 2 Bay Window campervan, 1976 RHD, 1800 engine. Sleeps 4. Imported from Australia by G-Day Kombis in 2007. We have owned The Van ever since and used it for many happy family holidays around the UK rather than as a show van. Now selling as the kids have grown and it is no longer getting the use it deserves.
Original orange painted bodywork – except for re-spray to front and roof on arrival from Australia to repair sun damage.
This is a really solid van. Almost rust free – there are a few small patches – but rust has not worsened over the 17 years we have owned the van and we have always appreciated its original non-welded condition. Underneath it is clean. We have taken care to keep The Van covered when it is not in use. And to drive it regularly aside from camping trips.
Over the years we have kept up on mechanical repairs and have a full service record for work done. Very recently: new brakes and a new clutch. The Van passes its MOT every year – although this is not legally required now of a vehicle of this age. Tax free status, too, as a “Classic vehicle.”
The Van drives well, cruising happily at 57 mph, and it can do 65 mph on the motorway if absolutely necessary.
Inside we have chosen to keep things simple. We installed a full width rock and roll bed (sleeps two adults very comfortably), door cards and curtains. We left the evocative original vinyl covered front seats in place but the front seats are split and a new owner may like to repair or replace these. The Van can sleep two children up top on the “Australian style” pull out boards below the original canvas pop-up roof.
