What is Hydrostatic Head?

A fabric’s Hydrostatic Head (HH) is a measure of how much water it can resist before it starts to allow water through. The type of fabric used, and what it has been treated with, will both affect it’s HH value. It’s usually written in millimetres. For example, being waterproofed to 3000mm means that the material could withstand having a column of water 3000mm (or 300 cm, or three meters) high pressing down on it, before it would start to let in water. An extremely unlikely scenario, but it’s nice to know! What does 150 Denier mean? Denier is a unit of measurement which accounts for the weight and thickness of the individual threads used in a fabric. This makes it ideal for a long weekend, or a week away, but isn’t designed to be put up and left for a whole summer.

The UPF system UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor, and it’s a rating system used to rank materials which are used to protect you from the sun, such as canopies or clothing. A UPF rating of 50 or above is ranked Excellent, and will block 97.5% of UV radiation or more. This high rating will give you extra peace of mind when you and your family are using the Vango AirBeam Sky Canopy in the summer months.

Setting it up and packing it away:

It’s recommended that two people work together to set the canopy up, and also while taking it down again. With two of you working on it, you can set the AirBeam Sky Canopy up in moments, which gives you extra flexibility in when and how often you use it. Full instructions are included inside the storage bag, but here’s a quick overview of how to set the Airbeam Sky Canopy up. Once you’ve unpacked the canopy, the first step is to attach the kador rail to your vehicle, using whatever fitting method works best for you and your camper. The kador on this canopy is 2.5 metres long, giving you plenty of secure attachment space. Once it’s attached, you can lay out the rest of the canopy away from your vehicle and use the AirBeam pump, which is included with the canopy, to inflate the main beam. It should be inflated to 7psi, as laid out in the instructions. Once the main beam has been inflated, you'll just need to peg the canopy out with the strong steel rock pegs, which are supplied in their own carry bag.

Having them stored in a separate bag means you won't get dirt and bits of grass on your canopy, and the points won't damage the canvas material. Pegging out the canopy is nice and easy, since the pegging points are fully adjustable. Even if you’re parked on uneven ground, you won’t have a problem getting your AirBeam Sky Canopy set up.

Packing away your canopy might be a sign that your break is coming to an end, but luckily it’s quick and easy to do. You’ll essentially be doing the steps laid out above, but in reverse. Vango have even made the storage bag that holds the canopy larger than it needs to be, so you won’t have to sit on the bag to try and make it fit! AirSpeed valves: The valves used to inflate and deflate the awning beam have been designed so that they're fast and efficient, and work neatly with the pump. Vango have designed their AirSpeed to fix perfectly to their pumps, and have also located the valves to ensure they’re easy for you to access, meaning you won't have to reach any awkward locations to set up or take down your awning. Materials: Vango have developed their own custom material for the range of tents, awnings and canopies. Dubbed ‘Sentinel Exclusive’, Vango has designed it to be the ideal material for their range.
