The Split Screen Van Club was founded in 1983 at the Stanford Hall VW Show, and since then the club has grown into a national club with about 950 UK and Overseas members.

The main event each year is the annual gathering at Victoria Farm near Lutterworth. Held each year to coincide with the Stanford Hall VW show, we convoy from the farm on the Sunday morning, this year there were 165 splits in the convoy!

Membership: £25 per year.

We also hold a Tech weekend once a year, usually September, where owners can get instruction on whatever maintenance issues they may have, even get their own van on the ramp for repair. Subjects vary from a steering box overhaul, engine rebuild, servicing, electrics, tracking, whatever members want to cover. It only costs £15 per night to camp, instruction is free.

We try to have a presence at most of the major shows, and members will usually organise travelling together through our Facebook page The Split Screen Van Club. Any queries then please contact me president@ssvc.org.uk

Every member receives the club magazine, 64 pages in full colour and printed quarterly, the magazine is written by the members, stories of road trips, technical articles, restorations and show reports make for a varied and enjoyable read.

As well as discounts with several VW parts suppliers, club members can get help registering an imported van and gaining an age-related plate. At a small additional cost, members can also make use of the valuation service recognised by all the insurance companies.

The club welcomes all VW Split Screens in whatever state of repair and wherever it was built, we have everything from early German concourse winners to ratty Brazilian panel vans with nothing but a surf board in the back.

Owning a split is not a prerequisite to joining though, those looking to buy or even those just interested and want to know more about what it’s like to live with one of these quirky old vehicles are also welcome.

We attend numerous shows each year and organize The Brighton Breeze, a VW-based London to Brighton run which includes a show day on the seafront and camping at each end. Held each October, this has been a well-established event on the VW calendar for the last 22 years.
