We take our responsibility to the environment really seriously at Just Kampers.

Over the years we’ve brought in more and more measures to ensure that we’re operating in a sustainable, responsible way that isn’t causing massive harm to the planet. We’ve outlined some of the steps we’ve taken on this page, to give you some insights into the action we’re taking at JK HQ to do our part for the environment.

A massive amount of deliveries arrive at JK HQ every day, and much of it arrives in cardboard boxes, wooden crates or plastic bags. Where we can’t re-use these ourselves, we make sure that they’re properly broken down, sorted and stored in a large recycling container which is periodically collected from JK HQ and taken away to be properly handled.

This ensures that the cardboard can be reused, the wood repurposed and the plastic recycled.

All of the electricity we use here at JK HQ comes from solar power.

We’re fed all of our power from a huge solar panel array set up across the road (literally) from us, which works year-round to provide clean, cheap energy to not only Just Kampers, but also the surrounding businesses and homes.

There’s no escaping from the fact that we sell parts and accessories for motor vehicles. It’s the core of our business, and we’ve been doing it since the late 1980s. We all know that cars, vans and buses contribute to CO2 emissions, and therefore the greenhouse effect which impacts climate change.

However, we absolutely take measures to ensure that, as individuals and as a business, we keep our emissions as low as possible.

We ensure that all deliveries coming into JK HQ from overseas travel by ship, rather than putting it on a plane, due to the massive difference in the carbon emissions between sea freight and air.  

We’re careful about where we drive, and how we get there, which does limit the number of shows and events we attend across the UK and Europe, but also limits our emissions as a business.

Speaking of driving, we’re also constantly keeping an eye on the environmental credentials of our couriers, to ensure that we’re working with delivery partners who share our goals.

We made the difficult decision to stop printing physical catalogues, in part because of the environmental impact of the paper, printing, and shipping involved in creating and distributing tens of thousands of catalogues which would then be replaced the following year as new products and prices came out.

All of our products are now available right here on the JK website, with prices, descriptions and images which can be updated in minutes, rather than months, so you’re better informed.

A huge issue for people across the planet is the proper recycling and disposal of plastic waste, and it’s an issue we’re tackling here at JK HQ every day.

We’ve moved away from using re-sealable plastic bags in our warehouse, instead of swapping over to unbleached paper bags to hold smaller parts like screws and washers and woodruff keys. Rather than bagging these up individually and placing a label on the bag, these parts now live in drawers and the correct quantity is taken out for each order by our picking team in our warehouse, massively reducing the amount of plastic we use.

We also no longer include Haribo sweets with our orders, either. Each bag was made of plastic, of course, and as we were sending out hundreds of thousands of orders each year, the number of plastic bags we were sending out was becoming hard to justify (as much as we know you all loved to get a treat with your order!).

There have been several huge sweeps through our warehouse units here at JK HQ to track down any and all plastic which isn’t absolutely necessary and find a more environmentally friendly solution.

Last but by no means least on this list, is the work we’re doing with Surfers Against Sewage.

We’re proud to be one of their 250 Club members and work with them to arrange beach cleans and other events across the UK.

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) do incredible work clearing plastics and other waste from our beaches, and ensuring that these spaces are safe, clean and healthy both for people and also the environment as a whole.
