I am selling my 1974 South African import VW split screen single cab van.
This van is a rare right hand drive model and has recently undergone a very comprehensive restoration and upgrade program.
The mechanicals were removed and the body shot blasted back to bare metal. All panels were either repaired or replaced with VW pattern parts and the entire body was resprayed inside and out, including the underside which was colour matched to the top side. Only original VW colours were used.
The 1600cc engine was fully rebuilt and resprayed.
The vehicle was lowered (but not ridiculously low) using custom drop spindles at the front and new swing arms at the rear which have also been modified to provide better gear ratios for motorway driving.
The brakes are entirely new and have been uprated with servo assistance, they are now very sharp.
A bench seat has been fitted to provide seating for 3 people. This bench seat was taken from the rear of a VW beetle and I don’t know if the previous owner was a heavy smoker or something but it has a gorgeous patina (don’t worry there’s no smoke smell). Vehicle registration is correct for a 3 seater.
Three sets of 3 point inertia reel seatbelts have been fitted with the correct strengthening plates etc.
I had always intended to use the van to carry my kids around so wanted the best safety measures fitted.
New Steering box
New Wiring loom throughout
New lights
All new rubber seals thoughout
New tyres and wheels refurbed and resprayed to match paint job.
Lots of other new parts too numerous to mention here.
Probably the most outstanding feature of this van is the load bed. This has been covered in highest quality English Oak which has been routed along the edges, fixed from below and caulked using professional boat decking caulk to give a nautical look. The timber has been treated with best quality yacht varnish to maintain its colour and grain.
Since the pictures were taken, 2 rows of 3 stainless steel pop up cleats have been fitted along the edges of the load bed to provide tie-down points. When down they look like polished lozenges about 70mm long.
The only jobs still to do are to cover the cab panels with a fabric of your choice and fit the ashtray, grab handle and locker handle (all provided).
The vehicle is currently in Jersey but I will ship it to Portsmouth at my expense if the buyer is UK based.
