1978 RHD Latebay 'Oggy' for sale

£26,000.00

Our van Oggy is up for sale, although he's tax exempt he will have 12 months MOT from Thursday 11th August.
He’s a 1978 Late Bay which was saved from a local scrap yard in 2009, and then had a 4 year restoration. It’s been a hard decision brought about by the fact that camping with our older dogs is becoming more difficult, so to continue our camping adventures we plan on getting bigger wheels.
The restoration which was undertaken by myself with the help of my brother in law, went right back to bare shell and involved more work than I can list here. There are thousands of pictures (which will be saved to a memory stick for the new owners), plus all the receipts, showing the work that was carried out to get it back on the road, the main point I would make is the van was solid where it was important. The chassis had been wax oiled from factory and the roof line and gutters were perfect, hence we changed all the panels which needed replacing (sills, wheel arches etc) but all that the chassis required was for me to spend 6 weeks with a plastic scraper and white spirit to get the old wax-oil off before re-preserving with Rust Bullet anti-rust paint.
The engine which is a 2L type 4 was rebuilt with new heads, pistons, heat exchangers and has completed over 20000 trouble free miles, I change the fuel lines every 2 yrs but the engine bay has the Firetec fire suppression system fitted for piece of mind. It has the full Noise Killer sound insulation kit throughout, Vintage Speed gear change, Ctek battery to battery and mains chargers, Brazilian bay door handles so all locks including ignition are on one key. Interior made of Birch ply is Westfalia in style with 80l Waeco fridge, electric fan oven, gas hob and Gaslow 6kg bottle which can be refilled from any petrol station selling lpg. Whale underfloor gas and electric space heater, Bullfinch gas BBQ point allowing use of gas hob outside in awning etc. Full width rock-n-roll bed with 2 inertia and 1 lap seat belts, ARB pull out sun canopy, LiteSteer power steering, Roof has stainless steel hinges and is raised on gas struts. The bad points are it has been on the road now for 9yrs and so has some small rust spots at the bottom of both cab doors and the one spot on the sliding door.
We’ve used the van so there is natural wear and tear associated with camping but hopefully the pictures show he’s in good condition and worth anyones time to come and see for yourselves.
He will come with lots of spares (7 boxes of various bits) including items such as a spare alternator, an original voltage regulator and a new thermostat. I'm also including our old Movelite driveway awning, electric leads (including 2 campsite connections for use abroad, one with reversed polarity) and gas hose for cooker use in awning. We're located in Plymouth Devon, I’ll answer any questions and welcome anybody who wants see the van in the flesh.
I’d obviously like him to go to someone who will share our enthusiasm for keeping him going and enjoy many adventures well into the future.
