Spares/Parts:

Van will come with a couple of spare parts - replacement Grill and lower panel, spare drivers Mirror, some gear linkage bushes, rear wiper motor and linkage and Passenger door pocket and the Hacienda Black panel to fit under the bed/seats at either for the front or back.

Please note - it will not come with the awning, pics of this are just to show our set up but it is for sale separately. It’s the Kampa VW Travel Pod driveaway air awning. Will come with the Figure 8 bits to attach to rail.

The Inside:
The interior of the van is excellent. The fit out has been done to a high standard. We regularly strap our child seat onto the rear seat/bed safe in the knowledge she is about as safe as can be. The receipts for the M1 tested RnR bed are provided (£1,600), as is the certificate. The interior is finished in Hacienda Black with silver roller shutters. We had Van Life Customs add to the interior with a set of 3 overhead lockers, custom made to fit our van which work perfectly (we would highly recommend them if you're wanting to further customise the inside). Being a Long Wheel Base means you get an extra cupboard and the whole interior feels roomier. The bed also doesn’t protrude past the side door when down which it does in the SWB, meaning more room to move about. We have no problem manoeuvring it and it fits in normal parking bays just fine. It actually lives in our garage at home. The height of the van with the roof bars is around 6ft 1” so underground carparks are never a problem either.

The Outside:
The shell of the van is tatty. This wasn’t a concern for us as we didn’t want to be precious about it when squeezing down narrow Cornish lanes on holiday! Same for pulling up to campsites (We had to squeeze between 2 hedges once when the track to our pitch was washed out! English camping fun...). We bought it to be used and abused. That said, the arches are rusting and the rear of the van has some filler. There’s a rust hole behind the side step in the common place (whole replacement panels are cheap) The tailgate was rubbed down and treated to remove surface rust when a new rear window was fitted and the paint match isn’t great. However, after a good polish it comes out ok and looks presentable. Seeing as the interior is completely sorted, that just leaves someone to make their mark on the outside. The underside is good. I think our long term aim was to put it into a body shop during a quiet winter and get it resprayed to a colour of our choosing but we will leave that up to the next person.

The Engine:
When we got the van we carried out a full service at a highly recommended Essex VW specialist (D&R Mechanical Services) which included new cambelt, fuel pump belt, auxiliary belt, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, sump gasket, oil pump, water pump, crank oil seal and the replacement of missing belt covers (receipt to prove) – total cost being £1,083. We then replaced some tired selector bushes which improved the gear stick feel (i didn't install the whole kit so have the other bushes here to add to the 'spares'). More recently we replaced the Pedal box for a good one and added the bracket to prevent the common issue of the pedal box cracking. Finally, the van has just had a brand new Dual Mass Flywheel, Clutch Kit and Slave Cylinder after we found a leak from the Slave Cylinder (as the box had to come off.. may aswell replace the whole lot). The outstanding issue we have at the moment is an oil leak. It seems to be coming from the area around the oil filter but we haven't investigated it further. There is also occasionally a slight squeak on start up. Sounds like a slipping belt but doesn’t seem to happen as much when it’s warm. Maybe one of the tensioner is tired. It’s never really bothered us as it goes after a while and it’s not too loud.

Chassis:
The Stance+ lowering suspension is ok, it was replaced the day before we bought the van. When we picked it up it was lower as the torsion bars had been wound down. This made the ride quite bouncy so we raised the front up slightly which made it much better. Only thing I can think of on the chassis side of things is there is a noise when turning right so I suspect either something is catching or there may be a wheel bearing due at some point. It’s been like this for our trips to Cornwall, Wales and Suffolk (as well as a few days trips) and hasn’t gotten louder etc.

The van is still registered as a ‘van’ and we have insured it as a converted van with A-Plan. This has actually worked in our favour a few times as we noticed while away that camper vans were not allowed in some car parks!

In the last couple of months we have taken it down to both Cornwall, Wales and Suffolk where it covered well over 2,000 miles in total without a problem.

I have done a walk round video for a couple of people which can be sent over if you want - doesn't cover everything but will hopefully be of some help (it's me wittering on for 15 minutes... sorry!)

We will be sad to see it go (especially after putting so much money into it! I daren't add it up!) but our circumstances have altered slightly and we will eventually be looking for a newer van.

Van can be viewed in West Mersea, Essex.
