Outer Door Handle Seals (Set of Four) VW Beetle 1959–1966
Replace the old, cracked or missing seals around the exterior door handles on your classic VW with this Jopex outer door handle rubber gasket set.
Supplied as a four-piece set for both the left- and right-hand exterior door handles, these rubber gaskets fit between the door handles and the bodywork, providing a neat finishing detail when replacing, removing or restoring the handles on your Beetle.
Fits: VW Beetle / Type 1 1.2–1.3, built from August 1959 to July 1966.
Check the age of your Beetle and the style of exterior door handles fitted before ordering, particularly if the doors or handles have previously been replaced with components from another model year.
What are these outer door handle gaskets?
These rubber gaskets are designed to sit between the exterior door handles and the painted surface of the doors.
They're a small but worthwhile detail when restoring a classic VW, helping provide a neat interface between the metal door handle assembly and the bodywork.
The set contains four rubber gasket pieces, providing the seals required for the exterior handles on both sides of the vehicle.
Why should I replace my door handle gaskets?
After decades of exposure to sunlight, changing temperatures, moisture and general use, original rubber components on a classic VW can become brittle, cracked, compressed or damaged.
The door handle gaskets are no exception.
If you're removing or replacing your exterior door handles, it's a good opportunity to renew the rubber gaskets rather than reinstalling old seals which may already be damaged or deteriorated.
This gasket set is particularly useful if you're:
- Restoring a VW Beetle
- Replacing exterior door handles
- Removing handles while repainting your Beetle
- Reassembling doors after bodywork
- Replacing cracked or perished rubber seals
- Improving the finishing details on a restoration
- Refurbishing your Beetle's doors and exterior trim
Four-Piece Set for Both Doors
This is a four-piece gasket set, designed for the exterior door handles on both the left- and right-hand sides of the vehicle.
Having the complete set allows you to replace the handle gaskets on both doors at the same time, helping provide a consistent finish across the vehicle.
It's particularly useful during a full restoration, when replacing ageing rubber components together can save you from dismantling the same areas again later.
Fitting
These gaskets are fitted between the exterior door handle assemblies and the doors.
Installation will generally involve removing the exterior door handle, removing the old gasket material and cleaning the mounting area before positioning the new rubber gaskets.
Take care when removing and reinstalling the handles, particularly on freshly painted or restored doors.
Before fitting the new seals, make sure the contact surfaces are clean and free from remnants of the old gasket, dirt and corrosion.
Position the new gaskets correctly around the handle mounting points before carefully reinstalling the handle.
Avoid overtightening the handle fixings, as excessive force could damage the gasket, handle or surrounding bodywork.
If you're restoring or repainting your Beetle, we'd recommend fitting new door handle gaskets during final assembly rather than reusing old rubber seals.
Please note: This is a four-piece gasket set for the left- and right-hand exterior door handles. JP Group lists the set for VW Type 1 1.2–1.3 models built from August 1959 to July 1966.
Check your vehicle's production date and door handle style before ordering, especially if your Beetle has had replacement doors or later/earlier handles fitted during its lifetime.
