1970 Westfalia Early Bay LHD Pearl white
At a glance
Although an early bay it has a late Westfalia Berlin interior which has much better functionality and storage and is a genuine 4 berth.
It has a full length hanging cupboard over the spare wheel well with mirror, its solar equipped, had a leisure system, compressor fridge freezer, electrical hookup, battery charger, propex heating stationary and when driving, double hob and sink.

When we bought this camper in 2015 we were very particular about what we wanted. An honest dry, un-welded vehicle where everything worked and one that was super functional and hid nothing under shiny paint.
What we didn't want was a shiny camper that we couldn't park anywhere for fear of being scratched or something that had been restored badly and was unreliable.
We personally went through everything mechanical over a 6 month period and took it from london to Canada and the USA on a year long tour. A well known camper that has been featured in many magazines, blogs and guides.
Over the years since our return to the UK we have built on it's awesome functionality and reliability adding creature comforts like solar, heating, a reliable more powerful engine, dual super comfortable beds and enough room for a family.
This bus is bone dry and has been dry stored in our 11 year ownership. I'm an aircooled mechanic (wayoutwestie.com) so it's always been kept in tip top condition and improved in big and small ways every year.
It does however have plenty of patina and a number of character marks! Some of which can be traced back to the 1980's from the original owner note book. If you want a perfect shiny bus full of filler and non original panels then this is not the one for you.

HD front anti rollbar and bushes
New early wide 5 rims with original vw hubcaps wrapped in correct load index BFGoodridge all terrain tyres. These are taller than the originals and helps with the stock gearing by giving the more powerful motor an additional 5mph at top end for an easy 65-70mph all day. Original rims and standard tyres included.
Re-built steering box from Litesteer with new steering coupler
Recent steering damper, track rods, pittman arm and idler pin
NOS replacement rear bearing hubs

Rebuilt front and rear brakes with recent fluid change and handbrake adjust.
Recent clutch pedal assembly renew including cable.
Original style gear shifter, uprated rear coupler, and quickshift plate. Gears are a synch.
Original gearbox which is regularly serviced, has recent new bushes and is quiet.
Butty bits accelerator linkage for great accelerator response and zero slop

Two top loading storage cupboards which also extend the bed area for a small child or additional adult leg room. 180w solar panel, victron solar controller with bluetooth monitoring system, powers fridge/heater/usb continuously even on a cloudy day.
Engine
Built to spec specifically for our needs i.e a touring fully loaded camper! We wanted something with more power to get up hills, overtake with ease and cruise at higher speeds reliably.
2110cc Type1 with bags full of torque that can happily sit at 70mph all day whilst being ultra reliable. Rolling roaded to 100bhp. Freshly serviced and tuned. Over 10k spent.
