1977 VW Bay Window Campervan – “Misty”

Misty is a late bay-window VW camper and a California import, professionally restored in 2018 by Coolcampers and originally used as one of their showcase vans.
Powered by a reconditioned 1600cc engine and gearbox, she combines classic VW character with a practical, thoughtfully designed camping interior.
The custom 4 berth Coolcampers interior includes:
- Rusty Lee rock and roll bed - full width
- Elevating roof for added headroom and space
- Fridge integrated into the kitchen unit
- Sink and storage
- Electric hookup
- Power inverter and management system supplying 240v
- USB charging points
- Standard 3-pin plug sockets
- Stereo wiring and speakers
We bought Misty in 2020 and were drawn to her more unusual Mouse Grey paintwork. We subsequently had the interior retrimmed with contrasting blue vinyl seating with cream piping, complemented by matching door cards and patterned curtains. Hardwearing carpets and mats throughout complete the interior.
Mechanically, the van has been maintained by Type 2 Detectives since our ownership, beginning with the 500-mile running-in service for the restored engine. The van has now covered just under 7000 miles since restoration.
A lovely usable classic camper with plenty of character, ready to be enjoyed for weekends away, shows and adventures.
