After purchasing I put the van with TYPE 2 DETECTIVES for a complete mechanical renovation and upgrade of anything that needed to be done in order to make the van reliable and able to keep up, and stop, with todays traffic. Work completed in Dec 25 along with an MOT certificate, all detailed receipts available.
The van was transformed and now a pleasure to drive, unfortunately just as my knee replacement operation was confirmed making it very painful to drive now and possibly for at least the next 6/12 months or longer?
Originally delivered from Germany as a RHD to the UK from new to the Canterbury Pitt Co. for the camper conversion. A 240v leisure plug was fitted for electric hookups and 12V leisure battery with safari opening windows on front and sides.
The interior conversion remains original and will convert to a L shape lounge, twin bench diner or double bed. The original 12V pump/sink unit still survives, working and hidden under the seating along with the original working twin gas cooker rings attached to one of the opening habitation doors, the van was completely renovated in 2001 and had covered 19,400 miles when I purchased it last year, it is now on 20,000 miles. The 25 year old paintwork is showing some age related signs but nothing serious, there is a large awning (pictured) that comes with the van along with the front cab window blackout cover and anti-theft security fob device.
Here is a listing of the work completed:
Front disc brake conversion, new Porsche rear drums brakes, new 12V battery, independent rear suspension along with beetle gearbox upgrade, new clutch and rear engine oil seal, new alternator, electric fuel pump conversion, new copper twin circuit brake pipes with servo assistance, heating pipes fitted so it now has heating, front suspension and steering completely renovated and new stub axles and any worn parts replaced as needed, both front jacking points replaced, 1600 twin port engine removed and stripped for in depth service, check over and upgraded to twin SU carburetors, all petrol pipes renewed to comply with the latest fuel, petrol tank removed cleaned and internally coated, new fuel sender unit, rev counter gauge fitted, Gene Berg shifter gear lever and electronic ignition with 123 ignition tune+ Bluetooth communication to a smart phone.
Brand new set of alloy wheels and 4 new tyres fitted this year.
We did intend to travel the UK in this van but due to unforeseen circumstances find that we will have to find alternative arrangements. A good reliable van ready for the next owner to live their dream.
