VW 1972 Westfalia Type 2 Bay Caravanette
We are the fourth owner of the VW 1972 Westfalia Type 2 Bay Caravanette. We purchased her in 2004 from a gentleman who used to take it to Sandwich Bay in Kent everyday to look out to sea and sit and carve the most beautiful walking sticks with animal heads, birds as well as larger items such as Eagles and other birds of prey.
Since then we have spent many hours motoring to different parts of the country and staying in the van for several days at a time. We have visited Scotland, Isle of Man on more than one occasion, Wales, New Forest, Leicester, Norfolk and Darley Moor to name but a few.
In 2021 we spent a month living in the VW travelling down from Derbyshire through Wales and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
In 2022 we travelled to the Sandwich Fishing Lakes every two weeks staying in the van whilst we were tying up loose ends with a previous property.
Now unfortunately due to ill health we find ourselves not being able to use our lovely well looked after original VW which recently had the rust removed from underneath and resprayed the outside from the top down. A new canvass roof awning has been replaced.
The inside has not been touched and is still entirely original. It even has the the original plastic covers on the side panels of the settee/rock n’roll bed. The curtains have been replaced, but we still have the original ones.
The original cold cupboard, water tank, sink, tap and 2 burner gas cooker are still in situ and very usable.
I even cooked a three course meal in a beach car park looking out to see on a beautifully warm and sunny Christmas Day and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
We do have the original board which provides a double bed up top (as far as we know. We have never used it.
We will be very sorry to see the van go, but our lasting memories will remain with us always, in a beach.
