We have owned ‘Otto’ since May 2016. Reluctantly the time has come for him to find a new home.
He was converted from new by one of the best British Campervan Builders, Autosleeper, in 1990 which was the last year that VW produced the Type 25 Transporter. (also called the Type 3)
Unfortunately, due to an issue with the oil pressure warning system the original engine failed, requiring us to have a new factory reconditioned engine installed in October 2023. The work was carried out by Moore’s Motorcars of Clevedon who are specialists and experts in Type 2 and Type 25 vans. This cost us circa £9k. We have only covered around than 3600 miles since the refurb.
He has been professionally maintained and serviced during our ownership with no expense spared and we have appropriate records of that history. We also have some history from the previous ownership.
Otto has a five speed gearbox which was refurbished in 2021(this included clutch renewal), power steering, tow bar, Empi alloy wheels. On the camper side of things, he has a pop up roof with sleeping space for two, a double seat with lap belts that folds down into a double bed, a two ring gas hob with grill, a good size sink and drainer with an electrically pumped tap that is fed from an underslung water tank, a three way Dometic RM 5310 fridge with ice box that was fitted new in 2020 when the old Electrolux had had enough, thermostatically controlled Propex gas heating, a small MCB consumer unit and three pin socket for electric hook up with Zig electrical control unit, 12volt lighting, lots of storage cupboard space, a leisure battery which was renewed in May 2024 and is charged through a split charger relay.
The curtains were replaced in 2018 with the current thick lined blackout ones. The upholstery has seen better days and is showing its age with some areas of wear and tear and the bodywork is good but does have some corrosion in small areas around the van.
According to our maintenance engineer Otto is a very solid van and for an original 35 year old van is in very good condition.
Otto is perfect for a family of two or three or four and is immediately ready for his next adventure.
