Tallulah is a 1978 Volkswagen Type 2 Bay (4 Berth, 5 seats).
She is a beautiful example of a right hand drive pop top Type 2 with lots of original features and plenty of character!
We’ve owned and cared for her for the last 11 years, but our family situation means we’ve outgrown her and with a heavy heart have decided it’s time for her to start her adventures somewhere new.
She has a semi original Devon Moonraker interior. 4 Berth including double bed (rock n’ roll seat which converts to the bed), one original roof bunk and one wider roof bunk to accommodate an adult more comfortably! Under seat storage, beside bed storage and a small hanging cupboard too. Small cupboard opposite swinging kitchen unit which has been used to accommodate a mini fridge/coolbox. Swing out kitchen unit consisting of 2x gas hobs, gas bottle underneath, cutlery drawer and storage for pots and pans. Sink available but not currently set up. Tallulah comes with a full set of handmade curtains and cushions. There is an additional seat belt fitted to the rear seat but not to the bench (this could be easily rectified if required!). Stereo and CD player with aux lead option available. Could even throw in some of the excellent range of road trip CDs if you like!
What have we done since owning her?
- Had her raised (she was previously lowered) – this was for our comfort when driving and not needing to worry about speed bumps etc when on the road
- Yearly servicing and replacements or fixing of parts as required (log book with records in will be provided)
- New numberplates in 2019 (same numbers, more classic style!)
- Countless summer road trips, usually down to the South West
- Put her under cover during winter months
- Tended to rust and body/paint work as required
We used her for our wedding in 2024 so a lot of beautifying was completed: - Sanded back her body work, treated all areas of rust and repainted by hand (still have paint left I can provide for touch ups)
- New hub caps
- New wooden style laminate flooring
- New break pads
What will you need to do? - Nothing immediately! Has been used in summer 2025 with no issues.
- Had yearly service August 2025 – only oil change was required
- Pop top lining would benefit from being replaced in the next few years
- Tax runs out 1st Dec 2025 (Tax exempt but still need to inform DVLA!)
- MOT exempt!
