ONN344M (Oonagh) is a Late Bay Type 2 Westfalia Campervan, featuring the original Westfalia fitting which is considered to be the connoisseur’s choice of conversion. Built in 1974 it has six previous owners to date. They have contributed to a detailed service history which includes MOT certificates and evidence of remedial work.
We bought Oonagh in 2019 in great condition, with the additional features of power steering and an integrated fridge. We made some minor improvements around electronics including installing a starter button.
Since moving to the West Country, we have kept the vehicle in excellent condition, having a new engine fitted in May 2022, and later replacing the exhaust and starter motor. As a historic vehicle, Oonagh is exempt from MOT and Motor Tax: nevertheless she has had regular services and the bodywork has been checked with any necessary repairs. The paintwork has been maintained to a very high standard, including a professional re-spray of the lower half. All improvement are fully documented in the paperwork.
Oonagh is an excellent vehicle for touring. We have enjoyed numerous trips throughout the UK, Ireland and even France and Germany. She has been much admired by fellow campers and she has never let us down. The 1.6 engine can negotiate any terrain, hilly or flat; the independent rear suspension ensures a comfortable ride and with power steering she is a joy to drive. The full width bed, cooking facilities, foldaway table and storage (including a wardrobe and mirror) make for a great camping experience.
Oonagh has also featured regularly at vintage and classic car fairs where her well-maintained paintwork and distinctive features including the original upholstery have made her stand out from the crowd. This is the perfect vehicle for VW enthusiasts.
There are some marks and signs of wear on the interior commensurate with the age of a vehicle of this vintage. The water pump in the integrated sink unit no longer functions and the interior lighting is unpredictable although the magnetic LED lighting is a good alternative. These minor faults are reflected in the price of this quality vehicle.
