Authentic and original 1977 Westfalia Berlin. Refurbished in 2021 including professional body work, re-spray and mechanical work.
We have owned our camper since 2005 and have enjoyed many adventures and holidays in it. It was originally bought in Germany and was imported to the UK in 2003. It was given an age related UK registration plate and is now classified as a classic vehicle and therefore tax exempt. We have broadly maintained the authenticity of the camper and have only made some minor changes including some additional USB and 12v charging points, provision for a solar panel charging point, leisure battery fuse box and some additional reading lights.
In 2021 we had the camper renovated including professional replacement of most of the lower body panels, a full respray where we changed the original pastel white to a two-tone chrome yellow and pastel white. We also replaced the pop-top tent, sky light and all the window and door seals.
Strictly Aircooled completed significant mechanical work. The gearbox was removed and rebuilt and the heating system was refurbished with new heater tubes, cables and control pods. The engine was given a thorough service and a Weber carburettor was added to the 2 litre engine.
The camper was resprayed by Campervan Coachworks and they also installed the pop top and windows. They have continued to maintain and service the vehicle. In 2023 they replaced most of the front and rear brake components, installed new rear CV boots and replaced both rear shock absorbers. In 2024 they completed the engine service and replaced the front anti-roll bar bushes. We have documented and retained all of the receipts relating to maintenance and restoration of the camper and this is available for any prospective purchaser to view.
In the last 4 years since the restoration, we have used the camper for one annual holiday each year driving approximately 1,000 kilometres on each trip. In 2021 we drove to Cornwall, in 2022 we drove to the Outer Hebrides from Suffolk, in 2023 and 2024 we took the ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao and explored the Spanish Pyrenees and Spain’s north west Atlantic coast.
The interior is authentic and original. The driver and passenger seats have been re-upholstered in the correct material and new period carpets and door cards have been installed. The dashboard is in good condition, with a period radio, and the instrument cluster includes the original working clock.
It has a sink, twin burner hob (although one of the hobs is intermittent). It does have the original fridge, but we now use this as cool box.
