I'm selling my beloved 1971 VW Camper Van, originally purchased in Portland, Oregon in 2005 and imported into the UK. It’s a true classic with character, charm, and a solid mechanical setup that’s seen thoughtful upgrades and steady care over the years.
Just passed MOT and replaced starter motor with no advisories.
The following is information from the seller when originally imported to the UK back in 2005
> Imported from the US in 2005 – all paperwork and UK registration in order.
> 1776cc Engine – uprated with 044 big valve heads, counterweighted Scat crank, high-volume oil pump, remote oil filter, Engle 100 cam, Scat lifters, dual Weber ICT carbs, flanged heater boxes, and a header. Starts strong, runs well.
> Interior Refurbished – Reupholstered camper seating, stool, and bed; new front seat padding; vinyl flooring over plywood subfloor; and fresh door panels.
> Paint & Bodywork – Professionally repainted (inside and out) before import. Inner trim removed for a full interior colour match. Two minor rust bubbles present (see photos).
> Camper Details – Functional sink and tap (pump replaced), full blackout curtains (black exterior, warm fabric interior), child’s cot over front seats, and original manuals included.
> Modern Touches – Retracting Vanagon seat belts up front, heat booster fan wired to defrost switch, booster battery for interior electrics.
> Storage & Towing – Custom rear bumper with 1¼" receiver hitch, trailer wiring, and tie-down loops.
> Wheels & Brakes – Recently serviced rear brakes with new shoes, cylinders, drums and hardware. Front pads also recently replaced. > Rear all-terrain tyres nearly new; front street tyres at ~50%.
Since then it has been waxoiled and garaged and hardly used (maybe 2 trips a year). We've very carefully maintained it with a local trusted garage but haven't done any serious modification in order to keep it as original as possible.

> Minor leak from the fresh water tank drain
> Missing corner on table laminate
> A few minor rust bubbles are starting to appear
> Small chip on rear interior cabinet
I’ve owned this van for 21 years and it's been a fantastic travel companion and conversation starter. It’s time for someone else to enjoy the freedom, nostalgia, and character this van offers.
