2012 Volkswagen Type 2 T2 Danbury Diamond Watercooled Camper Van

Looking for the aesthetics of a classic Volkswagen camper van with the reliability of a modern engine? Then look no further. We’re pleased to present this Danbury-converted Brazilian Type 2 T2 Bay Window, powered by a water-cooled 1.4L engine from a Volkswagen Fox.

Danbury was a well-known importer of Brazilian Type 2 Bay Windows, converting them into practical camper vans by fitting essential camping equipment and converting the driving position from left to right hand drive. They offered two interior layouts: the ‘Rio,’ featuring a 3/4 rock and roll bed, and the ‘Diamond’, the layout found in this particular camper.

The Diamond layout includes a full-width rear bench that functions as a three-seater with seatbelts and folds out into a bed, along with a kitchenette featuring a sink and cold water tap, fridge, twin gas hobs, gas grill, and a collapsible table. Additional features include ample storage compartments, interior lighting throughout, and a stereo system with four speakers. The vertically inclining pop-top roof is supported by gas struts for easy operation, providing generous standing room inside and sleeping space for two additional people above.

The leisure battery can be charged via a 240V mains hook-up or through split charging while the engine is running.

The exterior retains its classic charm, finished in a traditional two-tone colour scheme of white over pastel green, complemented by steel wheels with polished hub caps. A roof-mounted luggage rack offers additional storage without sacrificing interior space for occupants.

In mid-2024, this Danbury underwent a major service, including a cambelt and water pump replacement, as well as a brake fluid and coolant flush. In May 2025, we carried out an engine service, ensuring this camper is ready to go with no imminent servicing costs.
