1971 VW T2 Low Light Campervan ‘Miss Pippin’ is for sale. Bought in 2013 we have had many fabulous family holidays - but now our children are teenagers she only gets used for high days and occasional holidays - and of course Glastonbury - when we can get tickets!
She is a pretty old girl - but more importantly she is very reliable.
The previous owner fitted a reconditioned 1600cc petrol engine just before his divorce (hence the sale!) and we have had no problems whatsoever. We keep her battery on a trickle charge, and she literally fires up almost immediately (feel free to call me 'out of the blue' on face time and I will turn the key and fire her up whilst you are on the phone – we are that confident!!)
Although MOT exempt as a Historic Vehicle, we maintain her regularly for safety and peace of mind - and as such she has recently passed her annual MOT - a couple of small advisories to be done in due course - but nothing essential.
Bodywork is very good condition - she wears a two-tone paint finish, an electric blue under lotus white. She is garaged all of the time - fortunately we have the space which you will see if you visit to inspect her. She wears a set of 5 spoke Empi stainless steel rims, she has a fitted leisure battery and has a useful front roof rack for an awning or spare tent etc.
Mechanically - as mentioned above the engine is excellent - she revs and purrs and runs fantastically. She is a pleasure to drive. The gears are strong – always ‘a bit of a knack' - you just need to be patient and fettle her a little!
Internally Miss Pippin is much the same as when we bought her - it’s been a case of ‘its not broken - don't fix it’ - but in my humble opinion she is a little dated and scruffy - albeit very functional for us. She has a working sink and gas hob, she has a 3/4 width 'rock and roll' bed, loads of storage (excellent for Glastonbury! ) and a space for a fridge (but we never fitted one!)
We replaced the Devon concertina pop-top a few years ago - it has 6 transparent panels - its excellent for head room and the kids loved sleeping up there! She has her original two children's bunks which still work as intended some 53 years ago.
Over-all she is a good, solid and immediately useable Campervan. Kept garaged and well maintained she is very reliable, and we will be happy to show you around, show her off to you and take you for a drive. No time wasters please.
