A rare find. A VW Type 2 Viking Spacemaker (or known as a super-viking). Ida is an authentic VW Type 2, late bay window camper van. First registered in October 1979, (one of the last off the production line), with a 2L engine (1970cc), dual Carburettors, ‘flat 4’ petrol engine, RHD, colour, original yellow and white, with a Viking space maker roof, original internal layout. Legal capacity for 5 passengers, rear seatbelts for 3 passengers have been retrofitted lap belts, sleeping capacity 6.
What attracted us to this Viking Spacemaker was the larger amount of double height space in the centre of the cab, compared to other camper vans, with some family members over 6ft in height this was a huge advantage, the feeling of the space is incredible especially when camping in dismal wet weather, I can’t emphasize enough how spacious, light and airy the inside feels with the roof up. One of the beds folds up with the roof to give much greater full height space, when that bed is not needed.
Having 4 beds spaces up in the roof space which can accommodate full adults was also an advantage for times when only 2 of us have a get-away, as there is so much space to dump things on the spare beds, and get stuff out of the way when camping.

Roof – Viking Spacemaker, or ‘Super-viking’ is the premium option with a solid bed which slides outwards, pushing out the roof creating in total 4 fixed beds.
rises with side hinges, to allow 4 sleeping spaces each as a single bed arrangement around the rectangular opening in the centre, beds are upholstered cushions on a hard base (as opposed to the standard Viking roof which had hammocks for sleeping), therofre allows 4 adults to sleep in the roof space or roof space to be used for sitting, roof is in good condition with 2 ‘windows’ .
The main interior can be configured with all seats out, to seat 5, or with alternative arrangement for standing to cook, or can be configured to a double bed arrangement using the put-away panels, hence sleeping 6 as a maximum.
Roof has 2 roof rails for extra luggage storage.
Have got a lot of service history and old MOT’s from 1999-present day. In last 3 years the engine has been taken out stripped down, given a total refurbishment, along with the Dual carbs, clutch, many other bits of work done over the years. This is a superb vehicle, in very good condition.
