1984 WESTFALIA CLUB JOKER LHD - ALL ORIGINAL INTERIOR
REDUCED FOR QUICK SALE
For Sale is our much-loved, 1984 VW Westfalia Club Joker in Masala Red which was imported from Germany in 2008 and we have owned her since then. She has 238,730km (148,340 miles) on the clock. MOT October 24, 1.9L petrol, 5 gears.
She has had lots of work done and lots of parts replaced over the years. We have all the original German paperwork and number plates along with the full MOT & service history since 2008. We had the van converted to LPG in 2009 and has run 95% of the time on LPG since then – however, the ability to switch between petrol and LPG allows for peace of mind on longer journeys. She had a full respray in December 2013, with many panels replaced (photos available). In 2014 we replaced the canvas in the roof. Last year, to pass the MOT, she has had major welding completed on the underside.
She is very reliable and starts first time. Our last adventure took us from Merseyside to the Outer Hebrides and back in 2022, with no problems.
We are only selling as ill health means I can no longer drive long distances, nor sleep in the bed, and so we are just not using her anymore. I am heartbroken to be parting with her but time has come to allow another family to enjoy her now.
This is a fine example of a VW T25 with complete original interior, apart from the larger, swing-out table. Minor additions to interior include LED strip and spotlights in cab and living area, and stereo speakers linked to Sony Bluetooth Audio system with integrated CD player.
All furniture is 15mm thick plywood with a beige PVC coating and brown PVC edging. The upholstery is dark brown/beige ‘Adagio’ material. The seat rear and side surfaces are brown imitation leather.
The Club Joker was only manufactured with the L-Round seat configuration from 1983 to 1985 when the configuration returned to the usual Joker interior, so this is a very rare item. There are two Captain seats in driver’s cabin, with armrests and integrated headrests and are both on swivel plates. Both seats are showing signs of wear and tear, but are still fully functional. The original, seat storage box for behind the passenger seat (with original Adagio cushion) is also complete.
The original, combination cupboard on the left behind the driver’s seat comes complete with the original sink, two flame cooker with splash plate. The splash plate folds down and can be used to drain dishes after washing. The unit also has a cutlery draw, a large cupboard and the original 3-way fridge. There is a diode control display system on the kitchen unit showing leisure battery charge level and indicator when fridge is running on gas as well as switch and display for Eis-ex LPG preheater. I personally restored the front of this unit in 2010, keeping to the original spec.
The rear floor has a lino type material and includes two runners to allow fitting of optional middle seat for two persons, and this is covered by the original removable, dark brown carpet with a non-slip rubber backing.
There are 5 double glazed windows in rear living area and the window above the cooker opens out on adjustable arms. The original high quality cotton curtains go all round including a clip-on curtain between rear living area and driver’s cab.
There is a cupboard unit under the L shaped seat with integrated freshwater tank – this is not currently plumbed in as we removed the piping when van was resprayed and we were going to insert large capacity battery for off grid holidays, though this was never achieved. There is a lockable, filler port on the outside if you wanted to replumb the tank in.
The wardrobe and storage unit over the engine bay contains the circular LPG tank, though does still allow for storage of blankets etc as well as some smaller items.
There is a roof locker below roof bed which consists of 2 equal sized compartments and this is where the speakers are placed in the rear.
There is a 3/4 width rock’n’roll bed for 2 persons (bed is 188 cm x 120 cm when folded out) with bedding storage area under seat. There is also a double bed in the pop-top roof.
The original front table on swinging arm (60 cm x 40 cm) can be used in the front or the back housings.
The inner lining of roof has a soft flock material and the canvas (which was replaced in 2014) has a large opening aperture at the front and 2 triangular openings on the sides, all with integrated, zipped mosquito nets. The fibreglass roof had an opening plastic window.
There is an External Hook Up with internal outlet socket and safety trip cut out. Hook up adaptor cable is included, however, as we have camped off grid for the past 10 years, I cannot guarantee this is still working. There is a leisure battery, under the driver’s seat with split charge relay and automatic 220 volt charger. The van battery sits under the passenger seat.
There is a 20 litre wastewater tank under the vehicle and an external, underbody 8kg LPG tank which the cooker and fridge run off. The luggage rack over the driver’s cab has 6 fixing points for tie down straps.
Extras Included:
Four VW Chrome wheel trims, Towbar with ball type hitch (never used so cannot guarantee electrics), a full set of Thermo window mats, an adaptor for filling leisure gas tank, fire extinguisher, Fiamma bike rack and levelling chocks. We also bought a new inflatable Summer Line Awning in 2022 though this has never been used and we will include this with all fittings and attachments to join to the van.
Points to note:
As this van is 40 years old, please do not expect a perfect, unblemished van. Although excellent for her age, there are areas that will need attention in the future.
There is a small area of scratched paint on left hand side – I have a small restoration kit I bought to repair but have just not got round to – and both bumpers could do with removing and spraying with Hammerite, though both are sound.
The VW Westfalia Club Joker side stripes and driver and passenger door decals were removed when van was resprayed – these are widely available. (I have the Westfalia transfers for front and back of the roof).
Small areas of rust are starting to reappear, though nothing major on seams but the rear of van, inside the tailgate opening will probably need replacing sooner rather than later
