Yellow 1990 VW Transporter T25 (T3) Campervan

For sale is our 1990 Volkswagen Transporter pop top, which sleeps 4. We bought the van last May from a couple who’d owned it for 14 years, knowing it’d need some love and attention, but that we could have adventures in it at the same time.

The plan was for it to be a project we’d complete in stages, however, with a baby on the way in August, sadly our priorities have now changed, we haven’t got the space and probably won’t have the time to continue what we’ve started.

At the time of purchase, it had an auto-choke problem, but it did start after a period of warming the engine up, so our first investment was to ensure it was mechanically sound for future travels.

In the year we’ve owned it no expense has been spared, with extensive mechanical work having been undertaken by the team at Coast VW based in South Molton, Devon to ensure it starts first time every time along with a number of other areas that needed attention. The list of work undertaken was:



Replaced both Rear Shocks

Replaced Clutch

Replace Front Arm Bushes

Replace Radius Arm Bushes

Replace Radiator

Replace Offside Upper Ball Joint

Fit New Fuel Lines

Fit New Distributer

Fit Coolant Pipes

Wheel Alignment

Bleed System

Check Fluid Levels

Check Tyre Pressures

Reset Ignition


Mechanically, it now runs perfectly and along with a solid underside devoid of rust the van is fully functional and ready to be used from the moment it is driven away.

What will require some attention in the future and would have been next on our priority list is the bodywork. Areas of rust around windows and wheel arches is prevalent, as is common with vehicles of this age, however it doesn’t have any bearing on the day to day use of the van.

With the tax year for the vehicle having recently ended, the vehicle has now been declared SORN, but the MOT is valid until November 12th with the only major advisory being a chip to the windscreen high on the driver’s side which doesn’t affect the view.
