US import Westfalia 3 previous owners from new SHOW WINNER

“Clockwork Orange” -  1972 VW T2 Westfalia winning best in show in October 2013 as appearing on the front cover of issue #72 of Volkswagen Camper and Commercial (p.18 – 22). 

Time-capsule camper.This is a van with heritage that can be traced back to the factory in Germany where it was first purchased by John Corry who was serving in the US military in West Germany in 1971. He took the van back to his home in California and was the proud owner for the next 38 years. The van was imported into the UK in 2009 and we are it’s third owners since purchasing in 2020. This is the fifth VW T2 we have owned.
The van’s provenance is lovingly chronicled in the magazine, of which we have an original hard copy that was given to the owner when it won best in show. First Registered in 01/01/1971 and in the UK on 19/10/2010.
This Californian import that spent most of its life in the US underwent a full and very high standard restoration in 2009. The legacy of type 2 campers is very important to us. It followed that we wanted to purchase a vehicle that was original and in concourse condition. Since owning the van we have always kept it in climate controlled professional storage in order to preserve and maintain its beautiful condition. We had the van professionally fully resprayed in 2022 in the original Sierra Yellow to continue its striking appearance. This included respraying the bumpers. No welding was required anywhere on the vehicle – the metal is solid.
The vehicle has always been serviced every year by Revesby VW Garage (air-cooled specialists).
The interior has been maintained in the original style with replacement Westfalia white, yellow and brown chequered curtains from NLA VW (nlavw.com) and Westfalia Stockholm Early Bay mustard yellow vinyl covers for all rear seats. We replaced the roof canvas last year and the buddy seat was reupholstered in mustard yellow.
The interior is unmolested and fully functional, with all original features still intact, for example, the clips holding the wardrobe mirror and wardrobe hanging rail, the headliner is original and unspoilt, the birch plywood wall veneer is original and as new. The spice rack, sink, tap and cooler are all working perfectly. Even the interior cabin light (almost impossible to find) is in full working order. We have the original hammock for the cab and mosquito net for the tailgate. The rock and roll bed mechanism works to provide a two berth below, with another two berth original bed in the pop-top.
Double louvre windows open smoothly and close securely. The interior Wolfsburg trim continues into the front cabin with logoed seatbelts, window winders and steering wheel. We added a bamboo shelf in the cab and an original cabby box (https://www.madmatz.co.uk/buspod-cabby.html (about:blank)) to provide extra storage on holidays. We added jailbars to the rear window and purchased a Westfalia storage bag to sit in the roof rack (again from NLA VW).
We loved the attention to detail, for example, the US sidemarkers, the twin Weber carburettor set up and slightly lowered ride height that makes the van handle and perform beautifully.The chassis was wax-oiled, even though it didn’t need it because of such a perfect restoration job by the previous owner. We also added a new battery and leisure battery, both with isolators and rear brake light on the bumper.
We could write so much more but everything is described in the magazine article, we have just continued to maintain the immaculate heritage of the vehicle.
Included in the sale is a Boutique 4m bell tent with a porch, wood burning stove and coir full mats - we used this as an awning with the van when camping. This has only been used twice. If you are only interested in the Van we can negotiate a price.

Genuine reason for selling and would have loved to have kept the van.
