1988 Autosleeper/Trooper

“Mabel” as seen on “Million Pound Motorhome” on Sunday 18th September, is a 1988 VW T25 Autosleeper Trooper.
The engine is a 1900cc DG watercooled 78bhp lump, she will happily run at 60mph on long runs, as she gets used regularly we put E10 fuel in.

The whole gear linkage was changed in 2021.

January 2022 the gear box oil was replaced.

The carburettor has been fully stripped & cleaned in September (2022).

Headlights have been replaced with new LED ones, so no more wondering where you’re going!

I’ve also fitted a pair of driving/fog lights.
Also, the front & rear light clusters have been changed to the “smoke” version, all bulbs are LED, & in the footwells LED strip lighting has been installed, thanks to Slaughterhouse Customs for suppling me.

On the rear air intakes, courtesy again of Slaughterhouse Customs Vanagon Power Engine Vents with 12V/Aux on the right side, left side has the blank, check out SHC website.

The original dash lights have been replaced with SHC Dash Bulb Dash Overhaul Kit.
Also on the dash is SHC Inside/Outside Thermometer + Clock & Vanagon Pillar Mount 52mm Gauge pods (WITH GAUGES) have been installed too.

There’s also a 12” (I think), LED tv fitted on a bracket with aerial.

A new fuel tank has been fitted & fully flushed out along with new pipes & filter.

While having her service in July 2022, the head gaskets were replaced as were the covers with Aluminium Engine Rocker Covers again supplied by SHC.

All the foam in the seating is new & has been reupholstered.

The curtains (black out), have been replaced & made by my partner Teresa.

I’ve sown on a leather steering cover which I find gives more grip.

I bought a set of VW mats from Fat Bobs Emporium.

In July 2022 all the wheel bearings were changed & also the front brake discs & pads are new thanks to Steve at Kustom Kampers in Tuxford.

The old wing mirrors have been swapped for a pair of truck ones.

All the locks & ignition work off one key bought from Custom & Commercial.

New leisure battery & split charge fitted December 2021 & the main battery was replaced in April 2022, again fitted by Steve.

Underneath has been under sealed.

Also coming with Mabel will be a Bright Spark gas heater, electric hook up lead & a butane gas bottle.

Passed the MOT, August with advisories of the 2 rear springs will need replacing.

Prior to us buying Mabel the previous owner stripped & resprayed her, however there are places where small amount of rust & bubbling is coming through, but not bad for 32 year old vehicle.

For an additional amount a 100W solar panel in a suitcase & maybe other items could be sold therefore giving the buyer basically a ready to go van.
