Hi,
My lady owner, who has lavished much care on me, is no longer able to take me to the festivals like she used to. You may even have seen me at Greenbelt, or at the Just Kampers annual get together.
I was born in 1987, complete with a VW approved fibre-glass high top, and a 1.9 litre water cooled petrol engine matched to an automatic gearbox. Those expert Holdsworth people fitted me out to be sold as a Villa Mk3 campervan, although if they could see me now, they might be surprised at the changes since then.
When she bought me back in 2014, my owner realised that I needed a make-over, and so the nice people at Campervan Coachworks in Essex were brought in to sort out my lower bodywork, and give it a respray – in pink, of course! This nicely matched my professionally re-upholstered interior seats and rock & roll bed in matching pink and ivory vinyl, with piping.
My interior woodwork has been painted to match the upholstery. I have lots of interior storage space, including a full height wardrobe to keep those festival dresses and outfits in – well, a girl has to look good when she is with me!
Talking about looking good, I have been borrowed and decked with ribbons to transport a bride to her wedding – how cool is that!
My owner’s grandsons loved getting the high-top sleeping shelf extension fitted, so that they could climb up and set up their own beds.
My drive-away awning gives my owner more space for outside dining on site, while allowing quick trips to the shops to resupply with essentials (who said white wine and crisps!!)
The mechanics haven’t been ignored, either. I am particularly proud of my stainless steel exhaust system which was fitted when my engine was replaced with an identical, but reconditioned boxer unit 10,000 miles ago. My automatic gearbox was given an overhaul and its interior seals replaced, and I was given a new starter motor. Recent presents from my owner have included a genuine Pierburg fuel pump – same manufacturer as my carburettor; new disk brakes; and a set of reversing sensors – although I think the latter are for her rather than me!
On the electrical front, my owner had a new fridge installed when she bought me, and a couple of years ago had my leisure and main batteries renewed. The addition of an inverter running off the leisure battery meant that she could power her laptop and TV when she was off-grid.
I recently had my annual MoT check-over, so can roam the roads until April 2023.
I think that I am gorgeous, and quite rare - an automatic Type 3 that retains the nostalgia of Types 1 and 2 without their waggly gear stick.
Lots of love,
Flora
