Classic VW Camper T2 Bay 1978

Reluctantly selling our much-loved campervan Maggie as we simply don't have the time to use her any longer like we once used to. We have had many years of fun with Maggie, surfing in Devon, rock-climbing in the Peak District and attending numerous festivals countrywide but now feel it is time to let someone else enjoy such experiences.

Maggie had a full restoration carried out in the mid noughties (undertaken by a previous owner) with many panels replaced (with receipts), however could now do with a little TLC. There is a small dent in the rear quarter panel and some bubbles in the paintwork which could do with rubbing down and re-painting. The asking price takes into consideration the cosmetic defects. Brand new engine lid has just been fitted and van will also sell with a new rear tailgate and repair rear roof section (cost over £1000, with receipts).

Bus is currently insured with an agreed valuation policy price of £15,000 costing £149 for a full year’s fully comprehensive cover (without needing any No Claims Bonus - from ClassicLine Insurance).

Camper is MOT and Tax exempt, having always had anything replaced or sorted whenever required.

Sleeps 4 (inside van) with a full width rock & roll pull-out bed below and double in pop-up top. Seats 6 with fold-away buddy seat behind passenger, front seats are believed from Golf GTI – very comfortable.

The original pop-up canvas top has a couple of zips that require attention however the top comes with a full thermal/waterproof wrap that keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter and only takes minutes to put up.

Good tyres all round on BRM rims which could do with re-furbishing if wanting to take bus up to the next level.

1641 air-cooled engine, 83,500 original miles (may not drive like a Ferrari but is happy to plod along all day long in the inside lane!) – leaves a few drips of oil on the driveway so probably needs a new gasket or seal somewhere if you’re a mechanic … or just top up before each long run.

Electronic ignition fitted in 2019 – always starts first time now.

Dropped front end beam axle rides on gas adjustable shocks for preferable daily ride.

Drive-away awning and bike rack will be included in sale as well as many other bits and pieces such as wheel chocks for levelling up etc.

ALL inspections are welcomed, and serious buyers are advised to visit (East Kent) so as not to be disappointed.

Full payment will be required prior to collection, either bank transfer or cash before vehicle leaves my possession.

A couple of minor points to note: Petrol gauge will require replacing – we had a new sender unit fitted last time the van was serviced but this didn’t fix the problem (garage said would need a new dashboard gauge). Had a new battery before the Covid lockdown but has not been used much over past 2 years so might need replacing (had to be boosted last time engine was started).
