1971 T2 Bay Window VW Camper – Australian Import
We are reluctantly letting our van go after 16 years of happy camping. Priscilla was imported from Australia in 2005 and we have owned her since (we named her Priscilla after the bus in Priscilla Queen of the Desert). Coming from a dry country, the chassis is in very sound condition. As you will see from the pictures, the bodywork has partly been worked on, with some original paintwork and some grey primer ready for paint, but it is all in very sound condition. The artwork was done by our daughter when she was around 14 for an art project and is acrylic paint and sprayed with clear lacquer - easily removed for a full body re-spray. Priscilla lives in a garage all year round so is kept out of the elements, although there are superficial rust spots here and there, but nothing structural. A re-con 1600cc engine was installed in 2006 and has done less than 9,000 miles since. For the last few years, she has seen very little action and the time has come for someone to finish our project. I keep the battery on trickle charge and she starts on the button. Mechanically, she is very sound with very sharp brakes (I have a receipt for the installing of a brake booster while she was in Australia so this must be why they are so good). Last year she needed new rear brake callipers and the year before a rear wheel bearing was replaced. The interior needs completing, but she can definitely be driven off for a camping holiday in relative comfort. There is a gas hob/grill, sink, utensil drawer and useful storage cupboards. There is a storage locker under the rear seat, which is fitted with two lap seatbelts. The rear seat is easily converted into a bed. The pop up roof is not of a type I've seen in the UK anywhere else so is no doubt an Australian design. However, we do have a Devon (at least I think it is) pop up roof that we bought (second-hand) and never quite got round to installing. We will be selling this separately on another listing but may be able to do a deal for the roof with the van together if wanted. We also have a variety of spare parts and new parts that we bought for the restoration but have not used yet, which we be included in the sale e.g. we have a full set of brand new window rubber seals and we also have a full set of thermal window blinds which will also be included. Feel free to text or call for further information or if there is anywhere in/around or under the van you'd like me to take photos of to send to you.
