You don’t have to be mad to work here but…

An intrepid group of JK staffers are taking on the Lands End to John O’Groats run in aid of Breast Cancer Now. A team of 10 JK staffers and assorted family members across 8 VW’s; the oldest being a very special 1960 Split, closely followed by MD Marks 1967 Cabrio Beetle, two ’68 Bay windows, a 1990 T25, 1999 T4, 2009 T5, and the company T6.

The idea was conceived, like all good ideas are, over a coffee. Purchasing assistant Gemma, owner of the T25 crew cab (amongst others) is responsible for pulling the motley crew together.

She said “We’re really looking forward to the trip and the challenges we’ll be dealing with along the way. There’s a great team here at JK so I’m sure one way or another we’ll make sure everyone gets there and back! It is a bit of fun but it’s also in aid of a charity that’s incredibly important to us. We chose this specific cancer charity because it was set up in the memory of Sarah Greene, who sadly died of Triple Negative breast cancer and who was a close family friend of one of the JK team.

Triple negative breast cancer is one of the most aggressive types of the disease. It has limited treatment options because it cannot be treated using targeted therapies available for other types of breast cancer.

SarahGreene.org is a tribute fund where the money goes straight to help pay for research, so no fancy offices and big overheads.

The team being funded via the charity, headed by Prof Paul Ellis are breaking new ground and hopefully will be part of the solution for beating breast cancer in the not too distant future.

We’d love to see some other VW’s join us along the way!”

They’ll be leaving Lands End at 5am on Friday 19th April, stopping overnight in Glasgow and completing the run on the Saturday 20th April at approximately 7pm.

Every single penny raised will go to the charity, with all costs being met by Just Kampers. With your help the team are hoping to raise as much as they possibly can.

If you’re interested in supporting them, they’ve set up a Virgin donation page for donations:

They’ll be posting live updates along the route on the JK Facebook Page and would love to see some of you join them.

You never know with your support they might even “have themselves a convoy…!”
