(If your VIN doesn’t seem to fit, it may have been re-stamped or mis-recorded — double-check with your V5C and the body plate.)

Browse Chassis Numbers for the following VWs.

On a metal plate in the spare wheel well area. Or stamped into the transmission tunnel under the backseats. 

Behind the passenger seat, mounted on the bulkhead or on the fresh air vent.

Behind the passenger seat or within the engine bay (T2 Bay Widow Campers)

The pan number, which can be found under the rear seat at the centre of the transmission tunnel for all model years. Additionally, there should be a number located on the body... for the earlier models, this is typically found on a tag beneath the hood (at the front), while for the later models, it’s located on the dash pad.

The VW T25 displays the chassis number in different locations to the other classic campers, such as on the VIN plate riveted to the A post, on the rear face of the offside front chassis outrigger or the chassis sticker above the pedals.

You can find the chassis number on your VW T4 in a few possible places, including the top of the dashboard on the offside (right), on the chassis frame behind the nearside (left) rear wheel, on the driver's footwell under the fuse box, or on the right column near the passenger seat.

The VW T5 and T6 display their chassis number in the same locations, including on the right side of the engine compartment bulkhead and on the nearside (left) of the dashboard casing.

For the most accurate information, you can order an official Volkswagen Birth Certificate (sometimes called a “Zertifikat”) directly from Volkswagen’s archives in Germany.
