Rae from the JK Team headed to Käfernation UK!
It's a relaxed, grass-roots, single-day event held in Reigate at the beautiful Buckland Park Lake, usually mid-July. Created by a group of friends who have been part of the air-cooled scene for many years, they wanted to build something different a show that focused on the cars rather than endless rows of trade stands.

The result is an incredible event with a buzzing, welcoming atmosphere and an outstanding selection of unique builds, many of which you simply don’t see at UK car shows.
The Kemperink was a real standout for me. It’s such a unique vehicle in its own right, but the personal touches that had been added made it even more special. It was without a doubt my favourite vehicle of the show and, in my eyes, the overall show winner!

The organisers have also put just as much thought into the food and drink. From delicious tacos and freshly made waffles to a custom-built slushy van, the food vendors are attractions in their own right. Many arrive in funky modified vans that perfectly complement the style and character of the show, adding even more personality to an already unforgettable day.
Käfernation UK is a refreshing reminder of what makes the car community so special - a laid-back event built by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts, where the cars, the people, and the atmosphere take centre stage.

The drive down to Käfernation wasn’t too bad. Maggie (my 1973 beetle) behaved herself and ran perfectly all the way there. Although one of her headlights decided it no longer wanted to be part of the car.
It was great to convoy down with the Split, and despite losing a headlight along the way, Maggie made it home. Not quite in one piece, but she got us back, and that’s what counts!

It’s definitely a show that’s earned a permanent spot in my calendar every year. I’d highly recommend attending if you get the chance - it’s become one of my favourite shows of the year, and I can’t wait to be back!
