Just Kampers have been Surfers Against Sewage 250 Club members for the past three years. We believe that the work they undertake, in the immediate and future protection of our oceans and riverways, alongside their ground breaking work in the fight against plastic pollution is incredibly important. JK staffers Gemma and Mark spent the evening with SAS staff and a host of other 250 club members at the annual get together, to learn all about what the charity has been up to and their plans for the future...
On Tuesday 20th November S.A.S hosted an incredible evening to say a massive thank you to all 250 club members for helping to fund the amazing work these guys carry out on a daily basis.
Representing Just Kampers Mark (Hassard-Short) and I (Gemma) set off in Marks T4 to Paintworks in Bristol to meet like-minded people and learn more about what’s been happening throughout the year and what’s in store for the future at S.A.S.
The evening started with the inspirational yet heart-breaking story of Rory Cheetham and his legacy be-more-rory. Andrew Cheetham spoke about his son, Rory, who was a keen surfer. Rory suffered from a rare genetic heart condition, ARVC, at just 19 he passed away after a surfing session on Saunton Beach in Devon. Rory's defibrillator had triggered while he was in the water but he came ashore, brushed himself off, got changed and climbed into the back of his friend's VW van. Sadly Rory passed away on the journey back to Exeter University.
Rory was a passionate conservationist and, like many of us, concerned with the problem of Ocean Plastics which lead to the conception of be-more-rory, to date, they have raised more than £12,000 to help our oceans.

The second speech of the evening was made by two exceptional women who, as part of a team of four, are taking on the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, one of the world's greatest physical challenges, rowing unaided for 3,000 miles across the unforgiving Atlantic Ocean.

To top off the evening the wonderful peeps at The Garlic Farm Field Kitchen provided a delicious feast all washed down with some Bread Board Pale Ale produced from leftover bread ………
