Having owned, driven and camped in classic VWs for the best part of 10 years, Ray Ley Restorations was formed from our love of keeping old classic cars on the road and finding our own adventures wherever we can. Keen to use classic cars every day, as they were originally intended, and not tucked away for special occasions, we aim to build practical yet eye-catching classics.
Our own ’72 bay window camper was taken off the road in late 2015 for a “Light Restoration”. This soon escalated into a full restoration with all welding, paint prep, paint and interior work carried out by us over a period of 4+ years. The skills developed over the course of the restoration resulted in us buying our second resto project and beginning to offer our services to other classic car enthusiasts.

Seats

Seats can take a lot of use and abuse over the years, so it makes sense to freshen them up with a set of new covers. Come to us with your visions fully formed for what you would like, or we have a range of fabric samples and different design styles to choose from. We love a collaborative project, even more so if it means a sit-down with a cuppa and chat.
All of our covers are built to order and created using templates from original covers where possible.
We can offer a full seat restoration service which includes frame repair and powder-coating, new padding when needed, and full fitment of a set of our covers.
Beds

At the heart of any camper is the trusty Rock n’ Roll bed. A place to sit, a place to sleep and a place for endless, vicious rounds of Uno.
Whether you need just a new set of covers for your existing foam or need both foam and covers supplied, we’ve got you covered.
We can upholster your covers directly to your bed boards, or create a set of zip-on covers in any style or colour combination you would like.
Door Cards

Custom door cards on your classic car can really make it stand out from the rest of the cars in the car park.
All of our door cards are upholstered directly onto either fibreboard or plywood backs, and include all the clips you’ll need to fit them to your vehicle.
We offer either individual door cards based on your needs or a full door card set. These can be done using a wide range of materials and styles to suit your interior.
Sunvisors

An often overlooked element of any interior is the sunvisors, and we use them without even thinking about it. A new set will add the perfect touch to your vehicle and give it a little lift.
50+ years of baking in the sun can often leave the foam in your sunvisors brittle and a little deflated.
Our sunvisor service includes a full strip down of your sunvisors, with new foam and covers fitted to the original frames for a clean look.
Headliners

A saggy headliner is never a good look, so why not fit a bespoke headliner to match the rest of your interior?
We can make headliners ready for you to fit yourself, or can take the stress out of it for your and offer a full fitting service.
Poptop Canvases

30+ years of opening and closing can leave your poptop canvas in poor shape, with tears in the corners and colours fading away.
We can manufacture and fit new canvases to either match your original or create something a little more custom.

We often get approached to tackle something a bit different, from tear-drop trailers to 13ft church pews.
