Devon Roof Cap – VW T2 Bay (1967–1979)
The Devon Roof Cap is a replacement outer roof panel designed for Volkswagen T2 Bay campervans fitted with the original Devon elevating roof (1967–1979). Supplied to restore or refurbish the upper roof section, this cap replaces the original skylight area and provides a solid, weather-resistant mounting surface for a new skylight assembly.
Designed to fit directly onto the existing Devon roof structure, the cap requires trial fitting, marking, and cutting of the skylight aperture before permanent installation. Once positioned, it is bonded to the roof using adhesive, clamped during curing, and mechanically secured using coach bolts for a strong and durable finish. The skylight funnel is trimmed to height to suit the vehicle before final assembly of the skylight mechanism.
Installation is a hands-on process and typically requires basic workshop tools such as a drill, spanner, marker pen, and clamps. Due to the size of the roof cap, two people are recommended for safe handling during fitting. The guide also highlights the opportunity to renew Devon roof seals while the roof is dismantled, helping to improve weatherproofing and longevity.
