Keep an eye on the performance of your solar charging system, and the state of the batteries which it’s connected to. This MeTer MT-1 digital display has been designed for use with the 20 Amp Dual Battery Solar Charge Controller: J42279. The unit gives you clear and accurate information in a way which is easy to understand, so you can see how your solar charging system is doing. Ideal for both 12-volt and 24-volt systems.

The digital display will tell you:

• The temperature,

• Voltage of the solar system,

• Voltage of your batteries,

• The charge percentage of your batteries,

• Current,

• Amp-hours,

• Watt-hours.

What is an amp-hour?

An Amp-hour is a unit which measures the amount of current flow (which is measured in amps) that a battery can give you in exactly one hour. Okay, that’s great, but what does it mean for you? All of the electrical accessories in your camper, motorhome or caravan (fridge, lights, sink, maybe even a shower if you’re fancy!) will draw power, and that power will be measured in amps. Being able to see the amp-hours available in your battery gives you a clear and easy to understand guide to how much longer you can keep running your power-drawing appliances, to ensure you don’t run your battery down.

Alright, so what’s a Watt-hour?

A Watt-hour shows how much power (measured in Watts) that a battery can output in one hour. Similar to Amp-hours, explained above, it’s a quick and easy way to see how much power you’re drawing from your battery, and how much power is going back into it via your solar charging system. It’s not vital that you install a digital display for your solar system, but it is a great way to check on how well your system is performing, whether you need to adjust the solar panels or any settings, and whether your oven has enough power left for it to cook all that dinner! We’re big fans of solar charging systems here at JK, and we’ve written a blog explaining how to make best use of them, and explaining how they work.

You can read this here: https://www.justkampers.com/jkblog/power-up-demystifying-solar-panels-210/ There’s a number of other top quality solar system kits and components available on our site, including:

• The 20-amp solar dual battery charge controller, which this unit is designed to work with: J42279,

• A 50-Watt, ultralight semi-flexible solar panel: J43143,

• A 100-Watt, ultralight semi-flexible solar panel kit, with all the fittings and cables: J45867.

This display unit is a fantastic extra for any solar system, allowing you to keep an eye on the performance of your charging system and the batteries it’s feeding.
