Description

Good news for T2 owners – just as brake calipers for the 1971-72 vehicles ran out, we used our know-how to develop a conversion kit that solves your problem.
As well as new brake pads, this comprehensive kit includes all necessary fittings to enable the use of later-style calipers on your early Bus, while continuing to use the early-style discs (J10140). Another problem solved – thanks to our expertise and experience here at JK.
Please Note We have found that due to manufacturing variances some calipers may require a small amount of material removed where they touch the hub.

  • Does the job

Of course, my van had to be the one year crossover when this kit was required but thank goodness for JK - a good value kit to enable the calipers to be fitted easily enough. My husband and son had the job done in good time and the van passed her MOT with flying colours

    • Fitted these on my bus, but the calipers scrape/scuff the disc when cornering or under load? Any reason why?
    • Answer: Different manufacturers built the discs to different diameters on the mounting bell, all you need to do is file the nose of the caliper back a little. This will not cause a problem as there are no fluid ways in this area of the caliper

    • I have an early 72 bus with old style calipers which are fried . I have a couple of brand new 73 calipers if I use this kit will I have to adjust the brake lines to suit the new calipers. will they work OK with the existing disc rotors . Are the pads a special thickness ??
    • Answer: You may need to fabricate a short hard line to connect up to the original brake hose. The pads are the later thick style. This kit works just as well if not better than the original setup

    • can you confirm the fitting of thin pads or thick pads to this conversion? I bought this some years ago and now need to replace the pads - the thick (late bay) pads seem too big to fit - your diagram that shows the components of this kit shows thin (early bay) pads - but your answer to a Q above says thick pads!! I have a 71/72 crossover bay with 69mm discs, and your late bay caliper conversion - so which pads to use?
      cheers, Rob
    • Answer: You will have to use the thick pads

    • I have 1968 bay with updated steering and brakes etc... how can i tell if the discs i have are suitable for these, or are both ok? i know they have the slimmer wheel stud pattern. the pads i have seem slimmer also?
    • Answer: You can use the earlier brake disc (J10140) with this kit.

    • Hi,
I have a '72 crossover with the early discs. If I want to fit the dropped spindles (2"), the kit mentions I should update my setup to the '73 onwards. Does this mean I should avoid this kit for the crossover, and go straight for a set of '73 onwards callipers and discs? Will these fit directly, or do I need to modify anything else?
      Thanks,
      Rob
    • Answer: This kit includes late calipers (post '73). You shouldn't need anything else to fit the kit.
