Why would I upgrade my gas struts?

These struts are a great solution, to those who’ve recently fitted a bike rack. While at first, it may seem your standard struts support your rack just fine, they will eventually perish under the increased load. When used as a pair, these improved gas struts provide a superior ejection force, in comparison to the standard units.

Your standard struts will perform with roughly 985 N of force, while these upgrades produce approximately 1200 N upon ejection. Gas struts generate force as a product of air compression within the strut chamber; these struts have been designed to hold a greater gas pressure, which generates a better level of force on return. If more force is produced by a strut, then the struts maximum weight capacity will be more.
