This EMPI GT-2 Deluxe Camshaft Kit is a performance-oriented camshaft kit designed for a range of classic air-cooled VW engines, making it a great choice when rebuilding or upgrading your engine.

Fits:

• VW Beetles built from December 1947 to August 1970 with 1200cc to 1600cc engines,

• VW T2 Splits built from January 1950 to July 1967 with 12oocc to 1500cc engines,

• VW T2 Bays built from August 1967 to August 1970 with 1600cc engines,

VW Type 3s built from April 1961 to August 1970 with 1500cc to 1600cc engines.

Always check your engine specification before ordering. Many classic VWs have received replacement, rebuilt or modified engines during their lifetime, so compatibility should be determined by the engine specification as well as the vehicle's model and year.

What is the EMPI GT-2 Deluxe Camshaft Kit?

The camshaft is a fundamental part of your engine's valvetrain, controlling when the inlet and exhaust valves open and close as the engine operates.

Changing the camshaft specification is one of the modifications that can be made when building or upgrading an air-cooled VW engine.

This EMPI GT-2 Deluxe Camshaft Kit is intended for compatible classic VW air-cooled engines and is particularly suited to owners carrying out an engine rebuild or performance upgrade.

Because changing the camshaft requires substantial engine disassembly, it's important to plan the complete engine specification before installation.

Fitting EMPI’s Deluxe GT-2 Camshaft Kit

Replacing a camshaft is a significant engine job and isn't comparable to fitting an external bolt-on performance component.

Installation generally requires the engine to be removed and substantially dismantled, including separation of the crankcase.

The condition and compatibility of the surrounding components should be checked during installation, including the camshaft gear, lifters/followers, pushrods, rocker gear, valve springs and other valvetrain components.

Correct assembly procedures, lubrication, clearances and camshaft break-in procedures are particularly important.

For this reason, we'd recommend installation by an experienced air-cooled VW engine builder or specialist unless you've got the appropriate tools, knowledge and experience to rebuild an air-cooled VW engine yourself.

If you're carrying out a complete engine rebuild, matching the camshaft to the cylinder heads, compression ratio, induction system and exhaust is important to achieving the intended engine characteristics.

Please note: The exact compatibility of performance engine components depends on the complete engine specification. Check your engine carefully before ordering and make sure the camshaft and associated valvetrain components are suitable for your intended engine build.
