This EMPI Super Fan Shroud with air ducts combines the traditional appearance of a 36 HP-style VW fan shroud with a later Doghouse oil cooler configuration, making it a great upgrade for a wide range of classic air-cooled VW engines.

Finished in black, this version features heater air ducts, making it suitable for installations where you want to retain the appropriate heater hose arrangement while benefiting from the Doghouse-style cooling system.

Fits:

• VW Beetles built from 1947 to 1986 with 1200cc to 1600cc engines,

• VW T2 Splits built from 1950 to 1967 with 1200cc to 1500cc engines,

• VW T2 built from 1967 to 1979 with 1600cc engines,

• VW Karmann Ghia built from 1955 to 1974 with 1200cc to 1600cc engines,

• VW 181 Trekkers built from 1969 to 1979 with 1500cc to 1600ccengines,

Always check your engine specification, fan size, oil cooler arrangement and existing cooling system before ordering, particularly if your VW has been fitted with a modified or replacement engine.

The fan shroud is an essential part of an air-cooled VW engine's cooling system, helping to distribute cooling air from the engine fan to the cylinders, cylinder heads and oil cooler.

The EMPI Super Shroud has been developed to increase airflow to these critical areas.

• 38% more cooling airflow to the cylinders and heads compared with an OEM early-style non-Doghouse fan shroud

• 7% more total airflow to the cylinders and heads than an OEM Doghouse shroud

• 23% more airflow to the cylinders and heads than existing EMPI/aftermarket Doghouse shrouds

• Substantially increased airflow to the oil cooler compared with the configurations tested

Why should I fit an EMPI Super Fan Shroud?

The fan shroud plays a vital role in managing the airflow around an air-cooled VW engine. Replacing or upgrading the shroud can therefore be an important consideration when building a new engine or improving an existing cooling system.

This EMPI Super Shroud is particularly useful if you're:

• Building or upgrading an air-cooled VW engine,

• Using a Doghouse oil cooler setup,

• Looking to improve cooling-air distribution,

• Retaining heater hoses and therefore require heater air outlets,

• Building a modified engine,

• Looking for a traditional 36 HP-style appearance,

• Refreshing the cooling system during an engine.

Installing the EMPI Super Fan Shroud:

Installation involves removing the existing fan shroud and installing or transferring the appropriate cooling-system components to the new shroud.

Because the fan shroud is an important part of the engine's cooling system, make sure that the cooling fan, Doghouse oil cooler, oil cooler seals, engine tinware and associated components are correctly installed.

The heater air ducts should also be connected to the appropriate heater hoses where the vehicle's heating system is being retained.

Some aftermarket, modified or non-standard engine installations may require adjustment during fitting.

If you're unsure about installing the fan shroud or correctly configuring your VW's cooling system, we'd recommend having the work carried out by an experienced air-cooled VW specialist.
