Ian's Mallory Park Race

Watch The Video HereHere is the first of our in-car movies from the justbeetles.com beetle that is competing in the Historic Sports Car Club, Historic Saloons Championship for pre-1966 Touring Cars.
Shot at Mallory Park in Leicestershire, its only the car and drivers (Ian, our resident graphic designer's) second outing on a race track, following its class win a Brands Hatch back in July.
We were gifted the class win here at Mallory too as our two main rivals in Mini Coopers failed to finish, one overheated and the other unfortunately hit the barrier while avoiding a spinning Alfa Romeo.
We were suffering a lack of pace this weekend as the car is straight out of the box. (going off on some oil on lap 4 didnt help either!) We have another 10-12bhp coming soon from the GAC built 1285cc engine, which will work better with the new Cogbox close ratio gearbox. 4th gear was too tall for the engine this weekend, which was killing us, as Mallory is nearly all 4th gear, but with the extra power and a reduction in the cars weight, we will be on the pace of faster Minis before too long.
Next race is Oulton Park in Cheshire on the August Bank Holiday weekend (29th and 30th) where, if all goes to plan, we will have nearly 3 hours of track time to bring to you, with two qualifying sessions and two races (1x 20 minute race and 1x hour long, pitstop, 2 driver race).
Hopefully by then we will have a bit more pace and we may even put the steering wheel on straight! (lack of time!) Appologies for the lack of sound. 8000rpm in whats effectively an empty tin can proved too much for the microphone! Should be sorted for Oulton.
