When it comes to choosing the ultimate accessory for your van, opinion soon becomes quickly divided. A set of wheels? A set of Jail bars? .. How about a complete matching period race car to tow behind? For our art director Ian Brown, that’s the only way to roll!
Most unusually for an air-cooled racer, Ian’s ‘65 1300 Beetle is being built to campaign the UK’s finest circuits, rather than storming the quarter mile. Life for this Beetle will be spent at Silverstone and Brands Hatch - not Santa Pod, as it will be entered into the 2009 Historic Sports Car Club Championship where it will swap paint with iconic racers like the Mini Cooper, Alfa Sprints and Ford Falcon
Ian’s project started life as a bone-stock ‘65 1300. The championship’s strict regulations mean that modifications have to be tightly limited, but Ian has still managed to uprate the brakes to the CSP disk items and work has already begun on a ‘hot’ twin-port motor that should see the VW knocking on the door of 120 mph

So try something different next race season, Try cheering on a V-Dub at a circuit, instead of the strip. Visit the website www.hscc.org.uk for more details. See you trackside!
